W.L. French Excavating Corp. Partners with Meals of Hope to Feed Struggling Individuals in the Merrimack Valley

North Billerica, MA – W.L. French Excavating Corporation recently partnered with Meals of Hope to pack 15,000 meals for struggling individuals. Approximately 30 volunteers worked in groups to pack Fortified Macaroni and Cheese that will be distributed within the local community with the help of the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. “We feel a tremendous responsibility to give back to our community, and we do that in a number of ways. Our entire team had a great time packing meals for a very important cause”. Replied Bill French, CEO. Meals of Hope developed five meals specifically designed for the American palate and added vitamins, minerals and proteins to supplement an unbalanced diet. Food packages are designed to address the need for an economical, nutritious solution to aid in the fight against hunger. Each packet contains enough food to provide six to eight meals. “We are thankful and appreciative of the support provided by W.L. French to help us combat the hunger epidemic,” said Jack Day, Director of Meals of Hope. “These types of events make for a fun and rewarding day for the volunteers, and they help us deliver healthy meals to underserved individuals.”

Thank you, W.L. French Excavating Team for a Great Event!

What a great team you folks have there in North Billerica!! Everyone was so very hospitable,
friendly, helpful, and energetic! You have been granted the “Spunk” award for your singing,
dancing and general merriment while packing meals!!

  • A few key stats from your event
    • 15,360 meals packed
    • About 2,500 pounds of food were processed
    • 80 boxes of 32 bags (6 meals per bag) were packed by 3 teams of 10
    • On average, each person packed 512 meals (an unofficial record)!
  • Some facts on why this was so important
    • 32% of adults in Massachusetts experienced hunger or food insecurity in 2021.
    • 61% of LatinX adults in Massachusetts experienced food insecurity that year.
    • 70% of students in many Merrimack Valley cities qualify for free or reduced cost school meals, a key indicator of food insecurity.
    • Food Pantries have seen demand more than double over pre-pandemic levels.
    • Due to the effects of COVID, the expiration of COVID-era benefits, and now skyrocketing inflation suggest that this demand will not ease anytime soon.

As an organization, you clearly take great pride in the work you do. That pride should extend to
your commitment to community service and giving back. We cannot thank you enough for the
great work to help feed our neighbors in the Merrimack Valley.
All the best,
Jack and Ellen Day
